March 26, 2020: Ritter Public Library will remain closed in accordance with the stay-at-home order from Governor DeWine. We will not reopen April 4 as planned. Please return to this site for more information regarding a reopen date.
March 13, 2020: Ritter Public Library will be closed March 16 through April 3 with the exception of Election Day, March 17, for voting only. The east entrance will be open for voters on March 17.
The Board of Trustees carefully considered the situation unfolding with the COVID-19 outbreak and in order to honor the instruction for social distancing they have made the difficult decision to close. As we receive more information, we may postpone the re-opening of the library. Please look for updates which will be posted here on our website.
No fines will accumulate during this time. We ask that you do not return materials to our book drop. Please use your library card to access emedia during this time.
March 12, 2020: Ritter Public Library staff and I have been diligent in meeting and creating a plan to address the outbreak of Novel Coronavirus, also known as COVID-19.
It is important to us that we research and find accurate information and act on the information to continue to provide a safe community center for all residents of Vermilion. I have spoken with officials from the Erie County Health Department and monitored the response of other public libraries.
In reaction to these conversations and instructions that have been offered:
• We encourage large groups to reschedule any planned meetings at the library.
• Staff are cleaning toys and hard surfaces on a regular schedule.
• Hand sanitizer is available for patrons and staff members, and signs encouraging hand-washing have been displayed.
Please know that you are welcome at the library. We do ask that as a consideration to the entire community, monitor your own symptoms and avoid using our building while you feel ill. Please call us in the case you are not able to return materials and we will make necessary arrangements. Our emedia will remain available on our website, www.ritterpubliclibrary.org, under Check It Out.
We encourage you to stay informed as well. Please find good information at:
We will continue to monitor the information available and provide updates on the website. As we learn more and depend upon one another during this time, I am thankful for the kindness of the residents of Vermilion.
