You’re invited to a day of free, family fun Sunday, July 22 when we celebrate our 100th anniversary.
The fun starts with Chalk It Up, Main Street Vermilion’s sidewalk-chalk extravaganza on Main Street south of Liberty Avenue, from noon to 4 p.m. Check out the special chalk drawings celebrating Ritter’s centennial. Hunt through all the squares to find the hidden “Mischief Factory” character and enter to win a gift basket full of prizes. Plus, children of all ages can draw their own chalk designs and you can buy tickets to vote for your favorite artist.
Then head over to Victory Park, south of the railroad tracks on the corner of Main and Ohio streets, for a free, community-wide picnic between 3 and 6 p.m., sponsored by the library. Enjoy popcorn, games and music by Mike Moore, then grab a hamburger or hotdog fresh from the Lions Club grill. Toast the library’s long history in the community, sign up for a library card and check out all the great services you can get at Ritter. Limited tables and chairs provided; bring a blanket or some lawn chairs.
At 6:30 p.m., settle in for a free concert by local musician Emily Keener, co-sponsored by the Vermilion Chamber of Commerce. Keener, who is from Wakeman, was a contestant on the popular television show “The Voice”.
