Controlling stormwater is important to all of us – residents of Vermilion, city officials and Ritter, too. Staff from the library and city met this week with members of the Erie Conservation District and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to talk about water control. Ritter uses permeable pavers in the east parking lot, a green roof and a rain garden to make important contributions to the control of rainwater run-off.
Ritter is the first public library in Ohio to earn a gold award for Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED). The U.S. Green Building Council awarded the distinction in 2011 for the many green designs in the library’s building addition.
