Xīn nián kuài lè – Happy New Year!
January 28th marks the beginning of a new year on the Chinese lunisolar calendar. For 1/6 of the world’s population, this is a time of celebration, gratitude, and renewal.
Our young patrons enjoyed a Chinese-style Lunar New Year party to help ring in the Year of the Rooster 鸡. The party featured snacks that are traditionally believed to bring good luck: oranges for wealth, apples for peace, and noodles for a long life.
Partygoers learned phrases in Chinese, as well as how to write the word “rooster” in traditional calligraphy.
The next Lunar New Year falls on Friday, February 16th, 2018.
