Computer Classes


Ritter offers an ongoing schedule of hands-on computer classes. Click on the name of a class to bring up the registration screen.

 

  • Trace Your Roots
    When: Wednesday, October 01, 2014 – 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
    Where: Computer Lab

    This is an introduction to Genealogy. We’ll discuss getting started, organizing your information, resources available at Ritter, online resources, and how to use the Ancestry database to access census, military, immigration, and other important records.

  • Beginning Excel
    When: Monday, October 06, 2014 – 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
    Where: Computer Lab

    Learn to organize information using Excel. We will talk about creating a spreadsheet, changing the arrangement of data, and saving. We will be using the Excel 2007 version. Some experience with Word is helpful.

  • Cloud Storage, Dropbox and Google Drive
    When: Wednesday, October 08, 2014 – 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
    Where: Computer Lab

    Confused about the Cloud? This class will explain what the cloud is how to use some of the most popular cloud storage sites. Familiarity with the internet and saving documents is required.

  • 'Appy Hour!
    When: Monday, October 13, 2014 – 6:00 PM – 6:00 PM
    Where: Second Floor Tech Center

    Relax with new friends and enjoy a lively discussion about the latest and greatest apps. We will spend one hour introducing apps for every aspect of life. Maybe you will bring some app ideas of your own. Be sure to bring your tablet, iPad or smartphone. We’ll meet in the eTech Center upstairs by the fireplace. In October we will be featuring food and recipe apps. Please call the library or register below.

  • Digitize Your Genealogy
    When: Wednesday, October 15, 2014 – 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
    Where: Computer Lab

    You’ve spent months researching your ancestors. Now how do you share that with your family? We’ll show you how to scan photos and documents, then use Google docs to make attractive pages for a family book. This allows you to keep precious originals safe and make a family heirloom too. Bring some photos and documents with you. Familiarity with MS Word or Google docs is required.

  • Excel – Formulas
    When: Monday, October 20, 2014 – 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
    Where: Computer Lab

    One of the great features of Excel is the ability to formulate data within the spreadsheet. We will practice with a few simple formulas and explain the benefits of this feature.

  • Tech at Ten
    When: Tuesday, October 21, 2014 – 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
    Where: Endowment Room

    What could be better than a cozy morning spent learning and sharing with friends? We will share apps, websites, tips and tricks in an informal setting. This group will meet monthly to trade technology ideas, while enjoying coffee and cookies. You bring your favorite morning beverage and ideas – we will have a comfy corner and the cookies. We will meet in the Endowment Room. Please call the library or register below.

  • Basic Computer #1
    When: Thursday, October 23, 2014 – 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
    Where: Computer Lab

    In this class we will cover a brief overview of the parts of the computer. Then we will begin using the mouse. Mouse practice will be included during class time. This series of classes will build upon themselves to offer an general presentation of basic computer use.

  • Excel Graphs, Charts, Tips and Tricks
    When: Monday, October 27, 2014 – 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM
    Where: Computer Lab

    Learn to create graphs, change spreadsheet to easily present data, and other fun tricks that are available on Excel 2007. Beginning Excel is required.

  • Basic Computer #2
    When: Thursday, October 30, 2014 – 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM
    Where: Computer Lab

    This class will focus on keyboard skills. An explanation of the keyboard will be followed by keyboard practice. This series of classes will build upon themselves to offer an general presentation of basic computer use.
