Our afternoon book discussion group is reading “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and will meet to talk about it Thursday, March 15 at 1 p.m. The group meets the third Thursday of every month. Here’s an opportunity to be part of a unique, community-wide reading event: As part of our special programming to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War, local author Joette McDonald will lead a group discussion of “Uncle Tom’s Cabin” by Harriet Beecher Stowe Thursday, March 22 at 7 p.m. McDonald recently performed a dramatic presentation at the library as Stowe, using many of her own words. She’ll use her special knowledge and insights to lead the discussion.

Primary Election DayPosted: March 5th, 2012

Primary Election Day is Tuesday, March 6. Ritter is the polling place for Vermilion precincts 1-A, 2-A and 2-B and will be open for voting only beginning at 6:30 a.m. Please enter through the east doors. The library opens for regular business Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Tax Aide appointments will be in the Ritter Room and the group study room on the main floor.

Our very popular new friend Rusty will listen to children practice reading Saturday, March 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and again Monday evening, March 5 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. This Australian Shepherd has been specially trained to help children discover the joys of reading!
