Getting busy!

Crystal Budka and her daughters Mia, 3, and Haley, 4, are busy working in the new early literacy room. Crystal takes advantage of the wireless Internet service to work on her college studies. It may seem as if the girls are having a great time playing, but they are also working on their pre-reading skills! All the toys in the room are designed to enhance a child’s reading readiness.

Finance Meeting

The Ritter board of trustees holds a Finance Committee meeting tonight at the library at 7 p.m. The committee will discuss cost-saving measures in light of the continuing decline in state funding. Funding from the state has dropped by nearly 25 percent over the past four years. Tonight’s meeting is open to the public.

Ritter offers two book clubs - in the afternoon and also in the evening. Classics Plus meets the first Tuesday of every month at 7 pm. Tuesday, Aug. 3, they’ll talk about Raymond Chandler’s “The Big Sleep”. Next, they’re reading “Death Comes for the Archbishop” by Willa Cather. Order a copy today, and join us for a lively conversation.

Prefer afternoons? Shorelines Book Club meets the fourth Thursday at 1 pm. They’re currently reading “Happens Every Day” by Isabel Gillies, and will discuss it Aug. 26. New members welcome!
