Mural is back!June 15th, 2010

As a final step in our year-long building expansion project, the hand-made ceramic mural representing Vermilion has been re-hung.

The multi-piece mural was created for the library in 1994, when the building underwent a previous expansion. Artist Marvin Smith of Lakewood said he designed the mural, which is named “Vermilion Summer”, after making a photo tour of the town.

The pieces were taken down last year to make way for construction. A professional art restoration team replaced cracked grouting and strengthened wooden supports on the backs of some of the pieces. Then they were put back on the wall above the interior ramp that leads to the north end of the building.
