What time is it, you ask? Why, time for BACK TO SCHOOL!
Okay, maybe it’s not such a great time for kids; I know I dreaded the start of the school year as much as the next person. But there were some good things, like seeing all my friends again, study hall, getting a couple of new outfits to show off, and my favorite: shopping for school supplies!
I don’t know about you, but school supply shopping was an EVENT when I was a kid. So much stuff to pick from! So many colors and patterns! Deciding between the folder with the groovy design or the folder with the latest teen heartthrob on it, wide rule vs college rule, Bic vs Paper-Mate and whether or not I should blow the budget and buy one of the coveted, oh-so-cool Trapper Keepers this year was such sweet agony. Every year around this time I take a stroll or two through the school supply display at my local store and go back in time (and usually buy a notebook or another pack of mechanical pencils–hey, you can’t have too many!).
Back to the library! We’ve put out our annual back to school display and it’s full of fun titles to check out. Here’s a few of our favorites:
George Brown, Class Clown. George keeps the trouble coming at Sugarman Elementary in this fun series by Nancy Krulik.
I Didn’t Do My Homework Because… by Davide Cali and Benjamin Choud. Ever needed a fresh excuse for why you don’t have your homework done? This book provides some excellent examples, like ‘my brother and I were kidnapped by the circus’ and ‘elves hid all my pencils’.
Lunch Lady and the Schoolwide Scuffle by Jarett Krosoczka. Lunch Lady and her sidekicks take on an villain determined to use Thompson Brook School to vaporize the moon!
Marley Goes to School by John Grogan. That lovable labrador creates chaos when he decides to go to school for the day.
We hope everyone has a great school year. Stop by and see us anytime for cool books, movies, music and more!!
